What do you do in your
community?
I’m the principal of S
outhern Cross Catholic College in Townsville.I lead a college that is
currently Prep to Year 10 and we’re building
to Year 12 in 2019.
How did you get started?
I wanted to be a teacher since I was four
years old. So basically when you teach for 28
years as I have, in Catholic Education in the
Townsville diocese, I think you find oppor-
tunities to be able to lead so that others may
also enjoy the gifts of teaching.
What do you love about your
job?
I think what I love best about being a prin-
cipal in a Catholic school is being an agent
of change – being given the gifts and the
opportunity to make a difference and lead
people into pathways that they never dreamt
possible.
Why is your Catholic faith
important to you?
My Catholic faith is important to me
because it enables me to connect with
everyone in the school community. It helps
us as a college to build a wonderfully broad
foundation on which our faith can grow.
And it builds the bridge to the Church
that we believe is greatly needed in our
community.
What was your reaction when
you heard you were a finalist
for The Leaders?
I’m thrilled to be nominated as a finalist in
this category. I’m also very, very surprised
but I think that recognition for what you
love to do is a great thing and what it will
do is encourage me to ensure that other
people have that sort of opportunity to be
able to be recognised for their work in the
Catholic Church.
