The Community Leader Awards

6

What do you do in your

community?

I hold several positions within the

St Vincent de Paul Society in Queensland

and one national po-

sition. I’m the State Council vice president; Vin-

nies Housing Board member; chair of the State

Housing and Homelessness Committee; chair of

the State Membership Committee and member

of the National Mission and Membership Com-

mittee. I am a member of St Joseph’s Conference

at Nambour. My work as a conference member is

to meet with people who are experiencing some

difficulties in their life. By giving them quality

time and listening to their story, enables us to

formulate some thoughts on how to assist the

person to make decisions affecting their future.

This may be supported by giving material aid

including food, clothing, furniture and working

with them to control their own destiny. I have

been a member of the Nambour parish for 32

years and have been involved in the Parish Pas-

toral Council for four years, a member of the

liturgy group for 22 years and an organist every

weekend for the past 20 years as well as assisting

at parish functions and activities.
